Step three: Testing
All kindergarten students will be given a kindergarten readiness test.
Students (1st grade and above) who have not had standardized testing done within 12 months, will need to be tested. Standardized testing is a test that is administered and scored in a consistent, or "standard", manner such as the Iowa Assessment, SAT 10, Terra Nova, etc.
Potential students coming from a variety of other schools (private, Christian, public, or home school) can be at very different academic levels. Each student will need to have a current testing score in order to be considered for TSCA. If there are no current testing scores, TSCA will administer the test at $50 per student - if the student is accepted, this fee will be waived. These scores will help determine grade placement. If a child retains in a higher-grade level that was not appropriate, this will more than likely affect the student’s GPA, confidence, and in some cases, risks repeating a grade level. As an academic school, we want to meet the students at their honest educational level and help them grow from that point forward.
Step four: Parent and student interview
Once we receive the information listed above and confirm that all forms are satisfactory, we will start processing the student and contact each family for the next phase of the admission process, which will include a sit-down interview. Both parents with the prospective students will meet with the admissions committee and Administrator. This allows us to get to know you (and vice-versa) as we consider each student for enrollment.
Step Five: Enrollment
After evaluation of all forms submitted, testing results, and the interview, a decision will be made by the admission committee regarding status for entry into the school. Each family will receive an email with the decision and any next steps, if applicable.
*If your student has an IEP, please send the school a copy so we can determine if we can meet their needs.
*Our guideline for Kindergarten is that the child should be be 5 years old on or before August 15th of the school year. Please contact the school if your child has a "late" birthday and you feel they are academically and socially ready.
